We at Florida Exotic Bird Sanctuary are blessed with a remarkable group of donors! The extra monies that poured in to help fund our recovery from hurricanes Helene (Sept. 26) and Milton (Oct. 9) exceeded $20,000! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
As we reported Sept. 30 and Oct. 10, all our birds made it through the storms unharmed, thanks in large part to our evacuation buildings. So too our buildings and aviaries were spared significant damage.
Our hardwood trees suffered the brunt of the storms’ fury. We have had to remove or severely prune about 12 trees to avoid possible damage to our manmade structures. We appreciate the prompt response of our landscape company, Green Cutz, to our tree removal needs; its willingness to discount the cost of the work was a blessing as well!
Hillard, one of our loyal volunteers, resumes normal feeding.

Portions of our privacy and boundary fences sustained damage, as did several sections of the recently installed bird misting system. The electronic security system had to be reset, and several of our bird evacuation carriers have now exceeded their acceptable usefulness. Wind damage to exposed portions (e.g., shade sails, perches) of a few aviaries had to be repaired. Our wonderful staff and volunteers did a yeoman’s job of cleaning up all the vegetation debris and making many of the needed repairs.

The generous gifts from our many longtime and new Friends of FEBS covered much of the cost of our recovery from hurricanes Helene and Milton. And for that, the Board of Directors, officers, employees, volunteers and 850+ feathered residents of the sanctuary are eternally grateful! Your ongoing monthly support will be greatly appreciated as well. Blessings to you one and all!
