Volunteering at our Sanctuary in Hudson Florida makes a real difference in the lives of our birds and allows you to meet others who love birds while having some fun! Our volunteer program provides a unique opportunity to work with and/or around hundreds of parrots living in as close to a natural environment as possible.
We always can use your extra hands to assist our hard-working staff with the daily care of the birds, or to lend a hand with other sanctuary work, such as cage maintenance, toy hanging, assembling temporary cages, flower & tree planting and fund raising events.
Skilled electricians, plumbers and carpenters are also needed. In addition, we always need volunteers willing to do manual labor in a variety of construction and maintenance projects. We also have group programs for schools, scout troops and other such organizations.
Program Hours of Operation
Monday through Sunday
- 10am to 4pm
How to Apply
If you are interested in our volunteer program, you need to complete a FEBS Volunteer Application. Once completed and submitted, a Sanctuary representative will call you to discuss your interests, availability and skills—and schedule an appointment for your orientation. The complete volunteer process is as follows:
1. Submit your Application
2. Interview with a Sanctuary representative
3. We may require a background check
4. Attend Volunteer Orientation
Orientations are approximately 45 minutes long and are by appointment only. You must complete your orientation before becoming a volunteer. During your orientation, you will learn about the policies and procedures of the Sanctuary and Safety Rules for the protection of both you and our parrots. You will also receive some hands-on training about how to enter cages, mix food and what to look for while feeding the parrots (toys needing replaced, parrot health, cage inspection etc.)
Please keep in mind that although we will work to find the best match for each volunteer, because of the nature of the work we do, not everyone is a match for our programs. We reserve the option to refuse applicants if we feel they are not a good fit. We also welcome your “well-behaved” children. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and must stay with you the entire day.
