Time is flying by!
Our Spring Building Matching Funds Campaign has raised 80% of the matching funds goal of $10k—which means 10k is very close to turning into 20k!
Our first milestone became a reality when Pasco County approved the site plan for our 4,400 square foot hurricane shelter, pictured above. The plan calls for a twenty-two car parking lot in front of the structure (not pictured), including space for anyone who is physically disabled.
Our vision also includes a special area for parrots who may need to be temporarily boarded during a hurricane including an adjacent free flight area (you can recognize these in the sketch above by the two curved domes stretching out; the long main building in the rough sketch.) There will be amenities for staff and volunteers who will have a break area and kitchen - not to mention an office and reception area, including storage closets.
For staff and volunteers, we there will be a large enough storage area specifically designed to easily receive, organize and store food. A connected room is next door to prepare nuts, food and water dishes. Conveniently, the room next door will give staff and volunteers a dedicated area to recycling and a crafting parrot toys.
This building is part of the FEBS Sanctuary Life Reimagined™ initiative and you can read more about that here.
